FYI…this alum, Ryan Devlin, is coming to campus to speak at our Innovate State speaker series on the evening of November 8. As this email indicates, there is a good likelihood of getting him to speak in classes earlier in the day.

Hi everyone,

I’m pleased to share that MSU alumnus Ryan Devlin has confirmed his plans to visit campus as an Innovate Speaker on Wednesday, November 8th (6pm – 7pm). Ryan’s bio is below – but his experience as a Hollywood actor, social entrepreneur, and startup co-founder should make him very appealing to students. When Ryan was originally recommended as a speaker, this ad hoc group discussed interest in building out a full day’s worth of activities for him, including opportunities like speaking to an E-ship class or MBA class as well as spending time with a student club or organizations earlier that same day. What is the likelihood we can plug him into a class and/or connect him with a student club while he’s here in East Lansing?

Ryan Devlin is a founder of one of the hottest and fastest growing social-impact brands in the nation, This Bar Saves Lives. He was recently profiled in The New York Times and named one of Fast Company’s 100 Most Creative People In Business. Ryan is also a well-known television actor and host, having starred on hit shows Are You The One, Jane the Virgin, and Grey’s Anatomy to name a few. He started This Bar Saves Lives after seeing first-hand the need for emergency food aid abroad and wanting to do something about it. What began as an idea to help out one clinic in one country has exploded into a national phenomenon, with product now available at Starbucks, Whole Foods, Target and thousands of other locations. This Bar Saves Lives has donated enough food aid — more than 2.5 million packets across 7 countries — to help save the lives of more than 17,000 children.
