The book defines the concept of Industrie 4.0 (i4.0) and its implications to organisations. This includes the organisational strategic positions, the importance of process improvement, the consequences in logistics and supply chain management, new approaches in data and information management, the workforce aspect of the implementations and repercussions to sustainability. The current available literature contains general aspects (Lasi, Fettke, Kemper, Feld, & Hoffmann, 2014; Baur & Wee, 2015; Haigh, Russell, & Dutton, 2015; Manyika, et al., 2015) but lacks a practical synthesis for managerial practice. Today's media has popularised the subject matter and in doing so, i4.0 often appears to the average managerial practitioner as yet another management fad. The individual, unless versed in IS or It, i4.0 remains a relatively unknown. The book provides the literature necessary to comprehend, strategise, and deploy within the organisation. It aims to synthesise the major concepts for practical activation. It also explores and defines the key aspects of this "revolution" for the organisation as to process, logistics, and data domains. To complement the discussion, the case studies assist deeper comprehension. Deployment guidelines and recommendations are equally provided.
Contributor chapters address the evolution of the current industrial revolutions, a practical and working definition of the concept Industry 4.0, strategic implications of i4.0 implementation, importance of the process improvement in the quest of industry 4.0, consequences of i4.0 adoption for supply chain management, and the Human Resource aspects. Treatment of the subject matter includes: characterisations (observations, definitions, and measurements of the subject of inquiry); Hypotheses (theoretical, hypothetical explanations of observations and measurements of the subject); Predictions (reasoning that includes the logical deduction from the hypothesis and theory), and Case Studies that test all of the above.
Management practitioners: comprehensive source to understand i4.0 and its implications and consequences to the 'way we do business';
reference / guidebook to better formulate and design strategy to implement i4.0
Academics: Use as mandatory or recommended reading in courses such as IT, Knowledge Management, and Management Science. Identify the need for future research publications.

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before February
12, 2017 a
chapter proposal of 1,500 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors will be notified by February
15, 2017 about the
status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by April 15, 2017 and
all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at
http://www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/before-you-write/ prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.
