The University of Liverpool Management School (ULMS) seeks to appoint an outstanding academic as Chair in International Business.

 The School sits in the top 5% of business schools globally and is well positioned to enhance its national and international standing as it moves into its next phase of development, giving particular emphasis to developing the volume and reach of its world-class research activity. AACSB accredited and with its full-time MBA ranked in the Economist top 100, ULMS has 170 academic staff who enjoy a strongly collegial, research-supportive, and intellectually vibrant interdisciplinary environment. Well-connected with industry and the professions, the School’s research activity and external relationships have clear real-world impact. The School’s new extension in the Georgian quarter of Liverpool has state of the art facilities including a trading room and a marketing suite.

 Student numbers, calibre and satisfaction are high with a strong PhD cohort. In addition to the main Liverpool campus, ULMS offers a range of City-relevant programmes at its London campus in Finsbury Square, including a CFA recognised Masters in Finance and Investment Management, and significant online provision, as well as programme and research collaborations with its international partner, the International Business School, Suzhou (the Business School at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, near Shanghai).

 In its wider University setting, the School benefits not just from connections with key research institutes (the Institute of Risk and Uncertainty, and the Heseltine Institute of Public Policy) and the on-going development of the University under the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Janet Beer, but from its location in a city which combines strong cultural activity, excellent transport links, and regional beauty with a world heritage skyline and is highly ranked on quality of life in the UK, while remaining one of Britain’s most affordable cities.

 The Chair in International Business will join the School’s newly-formed Strategy, International Business and Entrepreneurship (SIBE) Group, which has thirty faculty members delivering specialist undergraduate and postgraduate modules contributing to the School’s management programmes including a BA (Hons) International Business and an MSc International Business.  Current research in the areas of international business and international management include the following themes: economic development, financialization , institutional environment, micro and macro level determinants of (E)MNE performance,  geographies of innovation and entrepreneurship, global leadership, informal entrepreneurship in developing countries, FDI and OFDI, intellectual property and international business, mergers and acquisitions and global governance.

 The appointee will provide academic leadership through making an outstanding scholarly contribution to research in international business and/or international management and through mentoring and developing academic colleagues.  The Chair will teach on postgraduate and undergraduate programmes, undertake curriculum development, and help shape the development of research and teaching within the Group and across the School.

 Publishing in world-class journals, the appointee will be recognised internationally as a leader in the field of international business and/or international management.  The ability to provide outstanding research and education leadership and to develop colleagues, alongside a strong network of contacts in the international academic community, are key requirements of the role.

 Salary will be internationally competitive, commensurate with the appointee’s accomplishment and potential.

 Formal interviews will be held at the University on Thursday 1 June 2017, with short-listed candidates being invited to give a presentation to the School and meet academic colleagues the day before.
