PhD Scholarship Opportunity

 

The Department of Management and Marketing, Cork University Business School, University College Cork is looking to recruit a highly motivated and talented graduate to undertake a PhD in the area of Human Resource Management. The position offers four years funding, covering doctoral programme tuition fees (at Irish/EU levels) and an annual stipend of €16,000 per year (subject to satisfactory progress in studies). The successful candidate will be expected to start their PhD studies in September 2017.

 

The Department is committed to providing a dynamic and supportive learning and research environment, which recognises the diverse backgrounds and interests of both students and staff. In line with this, the successful applicant will be provided with a supportive supervisory team and be provided with learning and networking opportunities to attain the highest standards of academic excellence.

 

The successful applicant will receive tailored guidance on their research, be part of a burgeoning HR research group, gain access to key international networks, in addition to gaining experience in third-level teaching. The successful applicant can be confident that s/he will be on the right path to a successful academic career through completing their PhD here. The supervisory team will be drawn from scholars with a strong track record in publishing in the leading international journals, gaining competitive research funding and who hold editorial appointments.

Applicant criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must have obtained a standard of at least Second Class Honours, Grade I, in an approved primary degree. A relevant Masters degree with the award of Distinction or Merit would also be preferable.

 

If you are an EU student where English is not your first language you will need to satisfy the English language requirement:

 

                IELTS: 6.5- with no individual section lower than 5.5

        TOEFL: 90 - with minimum scores as follows: Listening- 17; Reading - 18; Speaking - 20; Writing – 17

 

The scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to those applicants with an offer of a place on the PhD programme for September 2017 entry.

 

How to apply

The closing date for PhD scholarship applications is 12 noon on Friday 12th May, 2017.

 

To apply you must email through a 2,000 word research proposal (see below for specific details on what this research proposal should encompass) along with a current CV that clearly details your academic credentials. In your email please also state your eligibility for this scholarship (only Irish/EU candidates are eligible). Candidates who do not submit the required supporting documents by the specific deadlines will not be considered. Applications will be short-listed for interview (in person or tele-conference).

What should the research proposal cover?

Your proposal should be no more than 2,000 words (excluding references). A good proposal will have the following characteristics:
