The University of Maine Cooperative Extension and the College of Education and Human Development invite applications for a full-time, fiscal-year, continuing contract eligible faculty appointment as Assistant Extension Professor, 4-H STEM Specialist and Assistant Professor of Education, effective July 1, 2017.  This position is a joint appointment -- 75% with Extension and 25% teaching through the UMaine College of Education and Human Development.  The faculty member will be housed at the University of Maine in Orono.  The focus of this position is Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Education, a priority for the statewide 4-H program and the College of Education and Human Development.  The faculty member, in partnership with county and campus-based Extension staff and UMaine faculty, will develop and assist with educational programming and will provide leadership for applied research focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programming to help determine the impact of existing programming and to enhance future educational initiatives.  The teaching responsibility of this position will involve teaching one course each semester identified by the College of Education and Human Development.  Possible classes taught could be science methods, undergraduate foundations courses, supervision of science student teachers, or a disciplinary course for practicing teachers within the Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction master's degree program.  The position will conduct applied research and scholarship in collaboration with colleagues within Cooperative Extension, the UMaine College of Education and Human Development and others.
