Introduction

Space exploration is the ongoing discovery and exploration of celestial structures in outer space by means of continuously evolving and growing space technology. While the study of space is conducted primarily by astronomers with telescopes, the physical exploration of space is conducted both by unmanned robotic probes and human spaceflight. Although studies from earth using optical and radio telescopes have accumulated much data on the nature of celestial bodies, it was not until after World War II that the development of powerful rockets made direct space exploration a technological possibility. The first artificial satellite, Sputnik I, was launched by the USSR (now Russia) on Oct. 4, 1957,and spurred the dormant U.S. program into action, leading to an international competition popularly known as the "spacerace." Explorer I, the first American satellite, was launched on Jan. 31, 1958. Although earth-orbiting satellites have by far accounted for the great majority of launches in the space program, even more information on the moon, other planets, and the sun has been acquired by space probes.

Objective
The primary objective of this proposed publication is to provide a more holistic perspective of space exploration than is commonly found in other single-volume Reference books regarding this subject. The benefit to the target audiences below is self-evident in that it would not be necessary to locate different sources often dispersed in various literature.

Target Audience
The primary target audience for this publication are academics devoted to the study of space exploration and all of its related topics. The secondary audience are practitioners and others who have an interest in the subject matter. While having academic rigor, the book will be written in a way such that it can also be understood by non-academics and non-specialists who have the educational background to comprehend the importance of the proposed publication.

Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before March 15, 2017. Authors will be notified by March 31, 2017 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by July 31, 2017, and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at http://www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/before-you-write/ prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

Note: There are NO submission or acceptance fees for manuscripts submitted to this book publication, Psycholinguistics, Cognition in Language Processing. All manuscripts are accepted based on a double-blind peer review editorial process.

All proposals should be submitted through the E-Editorial DiscoveryTM online submission manager.
