Lansing Roots is a program of the Greater Lansing Food Bank's Garden Project designed to help beginning farmers from the greater Lansing area develop successful market gardening and farming enterprises through an incubator farm setting; reducing the barriers faced by most prospective farmers. While we place an emphasis on refugee, immigrant, minority, low-income, and women farmers; all are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will have participated in a farmer training program, apprentice or internship, multiple years of community gardening, or will have an agricultural background from their country of origin.

We are designed to host new farm businesses for 2-5 years, giving participants the opportunity to scale up their production to support their new businesses. Lansing Roots is also home to a Demonstration Farm to showcase various crops, methods, and materials to participant farmers. The Marketing Collective, including sales through a Multi-Grower CSA, Wholesale Accounts, and Retail Outlets, allows participant farmers to earn real income from the very beginning; while working towards successful business management.
