The Department of Mathematics at the University of Montana Western is excited to begin its first year of operation with a revised core curriculum for its B.S. Mathematics degree. The revised degree is highly focused on mathematical modeling and analysis in data intensive fields such as genomics, ecology, structural geology, information science, etc. In support of this degree, the department invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant or associate professor that will be focused on the effective teaching of courses that could include probability, calculus sequence, general education and developmental courses. The full time teaching load consists of three, four-credit courses per semester. A variety of interdisciplinary, undergraduate research opportunities will be threaded longitudinally through the revised curriculum. The successful candidate would be expected to support the development of these opportunities.
The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications:
1. Has earned a Ph.D. in mathematics, applied mathematics, or statistics.
2. Can demonstrate success at promoting a high level of student achievement in a challenging mathematical curriculum.
3.
Has documented experience at teaching effectively under a block
schedule OR is enthusiastic about working with existing mathematics
department faculty in order to learn how to do so.
4. Can provide a
record of successful involvement in and promotion of undergraduate
research in mathematical modeling (especially if using stochastic
techniques), statistics, data mining, or related areas. If no such
record exists, the successful candidate should be able to offer a plan
for developing this area of his or her professional profile.
