School of Economics and Business Administration, Faculty of Social
Sciences, University of Tartu, invites applications for the position of
a professor of Asian Economy 

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY: 

The University of Tartu (UT) was founded in 1632. It is a member of the

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

The position is available from May 1st, 2017, but a later start is also
possible. 

The annual gross salary as professor is 56 400 EUR (45120 net wage).
This is four times higher than the average in Estonia. 

Work load: Full time (40 working hours per week). 

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

The professor is expected to contribute actively to advance research and
teaching in the field of Asian economy. 

The assignments of the professor include developing and teaching courses
introducing the contemporary economy of Asia (e.g. Asia in world
economy, technology & innovation in Asia and special courses according
to the profile of the candidate are welcome) both in the study programs
of the School of Economics and Business Administration and in the
framework of the joint master's program taught in English. The professor
is expected to teach in classroom full-time or 128 academic hours per
year. The professor has the assignment to supervise MA and PhD students.


The professor directs research and development activities in their
specialism and takes steps to secure the funding necessary for those
activities. The professor acts as a leader of a research theme or part
thereof and when necessary supervises the work of junior teaching staff
members. 

The professor is expected to form connections with specialists in Asian
Studies at the University of Tartu, at other universities in Estonia and
abroad. The professor is expected to add the University of Tartu to
international research networks and to form connections with foreign
research centers and universities involved in the research of Asian
economy. The professor is also expected to create a research group
concentrating on the field of Asian economy. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

The prerequisite for applying for the position is competence to teach
the subjects of the field of Asian economy at all levels of higher
education and if needed, to organize studies on these subjects,
including PhD studies; and competence to supervise research on Asian
economy or head a research group. An international experience is
required. The eligible candidate has published research in leading
international peer-reviewed academic journals in this or similar field;
has been successful in obtaining research grants and in fulfilling
research and development contracts. Another prerequisite is teaching
experience at a university. Preference is given to the candidate who has
supervised M(B)A and PhD students. The candidate is expected to have
experience in the organisation of research and in administrative work.
