Hello Eric,

Would you do whatever you can do to publicize this through your
connections at NSTA, as well as your other professional networks?

The NSF Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) in collaboration
withAAAS will offer an Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE)
webinar focusing on those interested in improving undergraduate
education for *pre-service STEM teachers*. *The webinar will be on
Tuesday, September 27 from 5 – 6:30 pm EDT. *PowerPoint slides will be
made available and participants will have the opportunity to ask
questions. A recorded version of the webinar will be posted later.

The National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Improving Undergraduate STEM
Education (IUSE), NSF Solicitation 15-585
<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.nsf.gov_pubs_2015_nsf15585_nsf15585.htm&d=CwMFAg&c=eLbWYnpnzycBCgmb7vCI4uqNEB9RSjOdn_5nBEmmeq0&r=emdKT_S5--eJFbmJUvaV0A&m=70CxO1c6LwWI-4kXxN3V_54Zekg3Un4TTGOFBt9Sbu0&s=nlF3XG12Q2FwYurmbWTZ9gcgQ6QsvcQ5B12VVPM2518&e=>,
supports proposals that are interested in improving undergraduate
education, which includes PRE-SERVICE STEM EDUCATION. This solicitation
states: “A well-prepared, innovative science, technology, engineering
and mathematics (STEM) workforce is crucial to the Nation's health and
economy. Indeed, recent policy actions and reports have drawn attention
to the opportunities and challenges inherent in increasing the number of
highly qualified STEM graduates, including STEM teachers.”

The IUSE Program supports “research-based and research-generating
approaches to understanding STEM learning; to designing, testing, and
studying curricular change; to wide dissemination and implementation of
best practices; and to broadening participation of individuals and
institutions in STEM fields.” This webinar will focus on opportunities
for funding in the EHR: IUSE program, specifically associated with
aspects of undergraduate education related to STEM pre-service teacher
preparation. The questions of the participants will assist in driving
the richness of the discussion.

*Kathleen Bergin & Sandra Richardson, NSF Program Officers in the IUSE
program, will facilitate this webinar.*

Our youth should not be shackled by limiting adult perceptions of their
potential, but rather adults should ensure that our youth own the
mathematical and scientific knowledge, dispositions and skills that will
allow them to explore the post-secondary options of their choosing, in
the near and long-term. It's about preparation, opportunity, and
options for all. K Bergin
