NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE
Global Production Networks Centre (GPN@NUS)
THREE POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS
Professor Henry Yeung, together with Professor Neil Coe as co-Principal Investigator, at the Department of Geography
was awarded a S$4.95 million research grant by the NUS Office of Deputy President (Research and Technology) in October 2014 to establish a Faculty-based research centre for the study of global production networks (GPN) and economic development, with a particular
focus on Asia. Founded by a team of researchers from Geography, Economics, Sociology, and Political Science, this Centre is named GPN@NUS and the grant will end in September 2018 (though funding beyond 2018 will be sought).
The Centre now has about 20 full time assistant/associate professors, senior research fellows, postdoctoral
fellows, and research assistants. In light of this significant research initiative and the availability of funding until the end of September 2018, we are now seeking to appoint up to
THREE outstanding Postdoctoral Fellows to lead the Centre’s research activities in ONE of the following key sectors: (1) electronics; (2) automotive; (3) pharmaceuticals; (4) oil and gas; (5) finance and (6) logistics. The Postdoctoral Fellowship will
also provide the appointee time for publishing his/her research and funding for international conference attendance (on application and subject to approval).
The appointment can start anytime now and will end in September 2018.
The successful candidate will be someone who holds a PhD degree or is awaiting conferment (the PhD must
be awarded by the time that the post is taken up). The candidate should be well versed in the research domains of global production networks and global value chains in
any of the social science disciplines of economic geography, economic sociology, development studies, international
political economy, and international business studies. Prior experience in the study of global production in relation to critically important topics such as technological innovation, industrial
and social upgrading, national competitiveness, industrial and corporate change, entrepreneurship and business strategy, global governance, global environmental change, and so on, is preferred.
The successful candidate is expected to lead the Centre’s research activities in ONE key sector and participate in the relevant research group in the host department
