2016 GSA Attendees:

Please see the message below from Matt Dawson, Education Programs Manager at GSA.

SUBJECT: GSA seeking people to present about geology, at the GSA EarthCache Event 9/24/16

I am working to get some people to present at the GSA EarthCache event<http://community.geosociety.org/earthcache/events/iee> and to staff an Ask a Geoscientist booth. Details are below (including a link to a form where you can indicate your interest/availability). The event takes place on Saturday, September 24, 2016, in Denver, Colorado, right before the GSA Annual Meeting<http://community.geosociety.org/gsa2016/home> kicks off. The presentations and booth are happening between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m..

Might you be interested in available in giving a brief presentation about Colorado geology, or another geologic topic? If you are not available, might you know of some other people I could try? We have around 12 presentation slots open. We are looking for presentations about different facets of Colorado and Rocky Mountain region geology, but are also interested in presentations about general geology, or topics in geology that are of interest to the general public. The people attending the event are primarily non-geologists, but have a big interest in rock-hounding, geocaching, hiking, and such.

Best wishes,

Matt Dawson, GSA

GSA Seeking Geoscience Professionals and Students to Volunteer at GSA's 5th International EarthCache Event (5IEE)

GSA's 5th International EarthCache Event (5IEE) takes place on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at the Colorado Convention Center, before the official opening of the GSA Annual Meeting. GSA is seeking geoscience professionals and students, from GSA's membership and beyond, to volunteer at this event, either by giving a presentation about geoscience, or by staffing an "Ask a Geoscientist" booth. If you are interested in helping out, please e-mail Matt Dawson<mailto:[log in to unmask]> at GSA ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>), or complete this short survey<https://docs.google.com/a/geosociety.org/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfYYOu4mVPThiefzFIn0C9_y_aaHFzARUI1ZNKTldX-qh4KNQ/viewform>. All volunteers who assist with these aspects of the event will be provided access to a "VIP Lounge", which has snacks and soft drinks throughout most of the day.

Presentation topics may include various aspects of geology and paleontology of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region; general geology (rocks, minerals, fossils, etc.); careers and education in the geosciences; or issues and controversies in geoscience and geoscience education (climate change, fracking, Earth's age, etc.). At the "Ask a Geoscientist" booth, questions may include topics such as: general geology, minerals, rocks, fossils, Earth's age, field methods, geoscience careers, geoscience policy, and more.

Participants in 5IEE will learn all about EarthCaching, interact with EarthCachers from around the globe, meet EarthCache developers and reviewers, find local EarthCaches, and engage in many other exciting and educational activities. Because the 2016 event will be held in conjunction with the GSA Annual Meeting, it provides a unique opportunity for the EarthCaching and Geocaching communities to connect with the scientists and educators among GSA's membership.
