2016 Michigan Good Food Summit registration now open

 

One-day event invites anyone interested in advancing health and economic development through Michigan food systems

 

East Lansing, Michigan – Registration is now open for the 2016 Michigan Good Food Summit. This biennial event is a unique opportunity for anyone interested in advancing health and economic development through Michigan food systems to connect, learn and collaborate across sectors. The fourth Michigan Good Food Summit will be held on October 28, 2016 at the Kellogg Center at Michigan State University. 

 

The theme of the 2016 Good Food Summit is “Good Food for All: The road to 2020.” Participants in the day-long event will celebrate state and local successes, engage with sector-specific breakout tracks, network with others from around Michigan and across the food system, and hear stories about successful Michigan collaborations.

 

“The Good Food Summit is a high-energy, inspirational day,” said Kathryn Colasanti, MSU Center for Regional Food Systems Specialist and Summit Chair. “It’s a chance to hear from and connect with the many individuals, organizations and businesses across Michigan who are doing inspiring work. There is no other event like the Michigan Good Food Summit that brings together people from across the state and across the all segments of the food system to learn and connect with each other. It is exciting to experience!”

 

Highlights of the 2016 program include:

        Keynote address by Shirley Sherrod, Executive Director, Southwest Georgia Project for Community Education

        Debut of 3 short films highlighting Good Food progress in Kalamazoo, the Upper Peninsula and Flint

        More than 15 panel sessions, workshops, and lightning rounds, including:

        Bringing Local Meat into the Good Food Dialogue panel session (Business & Entrepreneurship track)

        Bridging the GAPs and Beyond in Food Safety (Farmer & Producer track)

        The Many Facets of Food Justice: What is it? workshop session ( Food Access, Food Justice, & Equity track)

        Developing and Building Organizational Capacity for Youth Involvement (Engaging Youth track)

        Farmland Conservation Model for Beginning Farmers and Local Food Networks  panel session (Policy track)

        Evaluating Food Systems Change through Stories: A Hands-on Workshop (Organizational Development track)

        Exhibit tables from an array of businesses and non-profit organizations

        Keynote address by J.R. Reynolds, Coordinator, Good Food Battle Creek

The Michigan Good Food Summit is a keystone event in Michigan’s statewide work to advance the Michigan Good Food Charter. The Michigan Good Food Charter is a policy roadmap for building a Michigan food system that produces Good Food.
