Introduction
The proposed book covers issues which are broadly related to economic growth and sustainability in an era of global hypercompetition and disruptive political events such as the recent Brexit vote in the United Kingdom. More specifically, it combines issues of economic growth and development and one of its key determinants – technological development. It is designed to significantly contribute to the present state of the art, regarding empirical evidence on the role of information and other technologies in fostering economic growth and development. By convention it combines both theoretical and empirical aspects of the latter, introducing extensive qualitative and quantitative research. It also aims to demonstrate broad explanations of causal mechanisms lying behind the process of technology diffusion and economic development, good practices, and case studies regarding issues discussed.
Objective
The purpose of this book is to show how technological development has altered the economic growth and industrial development of these countries and regions in the 21st century. The near-ubiquitous spread of IT offers unprecedented opportunities on a global scale, particularly for low-income economies to take-off on the development path, but also for advanced economies.
Recently, the world has witnessed unprecedented events in terms of speed and geographical diffusion of Information Technologies (IT). Broad empirical evidence shows that even the most economically backward countries were not left behind and experienced the IT tornado, thus resulting in almost total eradication of their technological deprivation. IT is recognized as a significant catalyst for any country`s progress and societal transformations. Full potential of new technologies can be easily unleashed when deploying them as an economic development accelerator in least developed countries (LDCs) as they develop from Factor- and Efficiency-driven economies towards Innovation-driven entities according to the World Economic Forum (WEF). IT is also a major driver of industrial and economic development in the advanced economies such as Australia, Canada, the European Union, Japan, and the USA as defined by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Target Audience
The principal audience of the book is likely to be scholars, academic professionals from wide variety of discipline, but those who are mainly dealing with issues of economic development and growth, social development, determinants of economic development, role of technology development in low and lower-middle-income countries. It is an invaluable source of knowledge for graduate and postgraduate students, in a variety of areas which especially include economic growth and development, information and technology, world-wide studies, social policy or comparative economics. Submission Procedure Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before August 15, 2016, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Proposals should be submitted at http://www.igi-global.com/submission/. Authors will be notified within several days but no later than August 30, 2016 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted bySeptember 30, 2016, and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at http://www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/before-you-write/ prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.
