NEW DATABASE: UNCTAD University Project maps content of over 1,400 IIAs

Dear Member of the World Investment Network,

It is my pleasure to inform you about the launch of UNCTAD’s IIA Mapping
Project database. The new database is part of UNCTAD's IIA Navigator and
contains a detailed mapping of 1,400 international investment agreements
(IIAs).

The UNCTAD IIA Mapping Project offers a tool for policymakers and
researchers to analyse trends in the drafting of investment treaties. It
builds upon UNCTAD’s Investment Policy Framework for Sustainable
Development.

The IIA Mapping Project database allows users to:
View elements of over 1,400 investment treaties
Select treaties based on key elements (e.g. qualifiers for fair and
equitable treatment, scope of the expropriation clause or investor-State
dispute settlement)
Compare treaty elements over time and across countries
Browsing through the IIA Mapping Project database will help stakeholders
prepare for UNCTAD's High-level IIA Conference, scheduled for 19 July, as
part of the 2016 World Investment Forum in Nairobi, Kenya.

Individual treaties are mapped by law students from participating
universities, under the supervision of their professors and with the
overall guidance and coordination of UNCTAD.

We thank our partners – students and professors – at more than 25
universities around the globe for their time and efforts in support of
UNCTAD's IIA Mapping Project

With best regards,

James X. Zhan
