The PWC AmeriCorps State Program is pleased to announce that we are looking for 11 passionate individuals to join our team from October 2016 – September 2017.  The PWC AmeriCorps State Program places AmeriCorps members throughout Ingham County to increase food security and reduce chronic disease in residents by focusing on two project goals:

Increase consumption of healthy foods and reduce food insecurity with gardening, food distribution and referrals.
Teach community members the importance of eating healthy food strategies to adopt better diets.
The PWC AmeriCorps State Program is looking to fill 8 full-time and 3 half-time positions placed in the community focusing on food security.

Full-time member benefits:

1,700 hours served, ~36/week
Living stipend of $12,530 distributed bi-weekly
Loan forbearance for qualified student loans
Health, dental and eye insurance
Childcare assistance if eligible
Education award upon successful completion of $5,775
Professional development training & support

Half-time member benefits:

900 hour served, ~20/week
Living stipend of $6,400 distributed bi-weekly
Loan forbearance for qualified student loans

Ingham County Land Bank-Garden Program: The Ingham County Land Bank creates better opportunity for sustainable economic prosperity by returning properties to productive use, increasing the tax base and providing affordable and innovative solutions for commercial redevelopment and vibrant mixed use projects. The Garden Program flips vacant parcels of land that cannot be built on, into plots where residents can grow their own food.

NorthWest Initiative: NorthWest Initiative is a nonprofit community development organization working to improve the overall health of the community and quality of life for low to moderate income residents living in the northwest quadrant of Lansing. South Side Community Coalition: For more than a decade, South Side Community Coalition has established a 4-H garden program that serves over 50 minority and at-risk youth in the area. Youth in the program take part in educational activities, leadership trips, mentoring and showing their projects to the community at Ingham County Fair. 4-H Nutrition & Hoophouse Advocate, Half-time position; Currently, SSCC 4-H garden program has been expanded to include an on site hoop-house. Tri-County Office on Aging: At TCOA, we are part of the community. We serve our neighbors, friends and family members every day. Our mission is to promote and preserve the independence and dignity of the aging population. To accomplish this mission, we connect people who need help to service providers, volunteers, donors, businesses and governments throughout Eaton, Clinton and Ingham Counties and the Cities of Lansing and East Lansing. Although TCOA’s Meals on Wheels is our best-known program, our reach goes well beyond providing nourishing meals. Ingham County Health Department WISEWOMAN Program: The WISEWOMAN program is administered through CDC’s Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP). The WISEWOMAN program provides low-income, under-insured or uninsured women with chronic disease risk factor screening, lifestyle programs, and referral services in an effort to prevent cardiovascular disease. The priority age group is women aged 40–64 years.
