*NEW FACULTY CONSORTIUM CHAIR AND FACILITATORS TOPIC, AND BIOGRAPHY*

*Chair: S. Tamer Cavusgil, Georgia State University*

*“Unlocking the puzzle of ‘success’ in an academic career: How to be
impactful, happy, and remain excited about your future?”*

There is no one single prescription for achieving success in an academic
career. Each of us needs to formulate what we seek from our career and
balance it with other important pursuits. Yet, it may be helpful to learn
about careers of others, and find out how they sought success and happiness
in their own experiences. I will offer some of my experiences and
recommendations for building rewarding careers in academia.

Tamer’s career includes teaching, research, and administrative positions at
Georgia State University (current), Michigan State, Bradley, University of
Wisconsin, and METU. In addition, he serves as a visiting professor at
Leeds University Business School and the University of South Australia
Business School. Tamer is a recipient of an honorary doctorate from
Universiteit Hasselt, Belgium. Previously, he held the Gianni and Joan
Montezemolo Visiting Chair at the University of Cambridge, the U.K., where
he is also an Honorary Fellow of Sidney Sussex College.

Tamer continues his research interests in the internationalization of the
firm, global strategy, emerging markets, and buyer-seller relationships in
cross-border business. Most recently, he has been researching the evolution
of middle-class in rapidly transforming economies.

Tamer has authored more than two dozen books and some 200 refereed journal
articles. Nevertheless, he considers his biggest academic accomplishment to
be the mentoring over 35 doctoral graduates, and numerous other students.
Tamer is the founding editor of the *Journal of International Marketing*
 and *Advances in International Marketing*.

While leading the CIBER at Michigan State University, Tamer spearheaded the
development of now leading international business knowledge portal,
globalEDGE. Tamer serves on the editorial review boards of a dozen
professional journals. He is the senior author of the leading textbook,
International Business: The New Realities, with G. Knight and J.
Riesenberger (4th ed., 2017, Pearson).

Research Activities Efficiently and Effectively”*

Based on his career experience, Dr. Saraoglu will describe the activities
of an academic as feedback processes in a dynamic system and propose a
structure that makes research and teaching form a positive feedback loop,
with each activity enhancing the scope and effectiveness of each other.

faculty typically encounter and how to cope with them. He will draw from
his own personal experiences as well as from observations from his peers to
enable new/junior faculty to better manage the crucial early years of their
