Liabilities of Foreignness vs. the Value of Diversity:
Conflict or Complement?

Call for Papers & Reviewers<http://www.eiasm.org/UserFiles/Call%20for%20Papers_v10%20(third%20call).pdf>

Dear EIBA Colleagues,

Two weeks before the submission deadline...! Allow us to remind you of this year’s EIBA Annual Conference in Vienna. This Call for Papers includes updated information on all submission types, various consortia and doctoral events, several paper development workshops (PDWs), as well as the EIBA 2016 social program. This is also a Call for Reviewers – note that a €500 prize accompanies the new MRQ Best Reviewer Award !

Introduction and Background

Liabilities of foreignness have long been a governing principle in International Business (IB) research. The notion that difference and distance are liabilities, whether they are national, cultural, geographic, or semantic, is pervasive in IB research and practice and constructs such as “cultural distance”, “psychic distance” and “institutional distance” have developed. While existing research is valuable, recently it has been suggested that an emphasis on liabilities and adverse outcomes associated with such differences may hinder our understanding of the processes and conditions that help to leverage the value of diversity in a wide range of contexts. This may include development of strategic capabilities, cross-border knowledge-sharing and learning, synergy creation in cross-border mergers and acquisitions, unleashing the creative potential of diverse teams and promoting sustainable and responsible behavior in multinational enterprises.

The EIBA 2016 conference is dedicated to exploring the double-edged sword nature of liabilities of foreignness and the value of diversity by theorizing and investigating their impact on business practice and international business research.

Conference Tracks

We invite competitive and interactive papers, posters as well as panel proposals on any of the EIBA 2016 conference tracks to take part in this conference. Competitive papers should be close to a publishable state, whilst interactive papers and posters may be in an earlier stage of development.

Call for Competitive and Interactive Papers

All papers will be evaluated in a double-blind review process. Copies of all the accepted papers for competitive and interactive sessions will be published in the EIBA 2016 proceedings. Detailed guidelines for the submission of conference papers are available on the conference website: www.eiba.wien<http://www.eiba.wien/> (or www.eiba2016.org<http://www.eiba2016.org>).

Competitive (max. 10,000 words) and Interactive (max. 6,000 words) papers have to be submitted via the conference website to one of the conference tracks.

The submission deadline for all competitive and interactive papers is Friday, July 15, 2016.

Call for Posters

In addition we welcome posters to any of the conference tracks to be presented in a dedicated poster session. This session will be held during a dedicated plenary slot where no other conference activities take place and a large number of high-level academics are assigned to review posters in order to secure quality feedback.

To submit a Poster, please upload an extended abstract (max. 1,500 words) via the conference website.

The submission deadline for posters is Saturday, October 1, 2016.

Note that this is about two weeks after the acceptance notification for competitive and interactive papers, giving authors the option to resubmit an idea (which may not be sufficiently developed yet) to the more developmental poster session.

Call for Panel Proposals

Panel proposals should adhere to the guidelines found on the EIBA 2016 conference website. To submit a Panel Proposal, please upload your proposal document via the conference website.

The submission deadline for panel proposals is Friday, July 15, 2016.

Call for Reviewers

We invite volunteers to register as Reviewers for the EIBA 2016 Vienna conference. Reviewers can expect to be sent two to three manuscripts to review soon after the submission deadline for papers (July 15, 2016) and all reviews should be completed by August 15, 2016.

The quality of academic meetings depends critically on the invaluable input and presence of the reviewers of the papers – so we fully realize how dependent we are on our able volunteers in this regard.

You are invited to register online as a Reviewer for EIBA 2016 Vienna at the link: www.conftool.com/eiba-wien/<http://www.conftool.com/eiba-wien/>.

NOTE: The best overall EIBA 2016 Reviewer will receive the MRQ Best Reviewer Award and a €500 prize!
