Prof. Dr. Melodena Stephens Balakrishnan, Head of Degree Program International Business, Professor of International Marketing Strategy and Entrepreneurship, Karlshochschule International University, Germany and AIBMENA Founder & President.

The purpose of the PDW is to provide junior scholars with constructive feedback on their current research projects in international business (IB) studies. We hope that many of these papers will be submitted to the AIB 2017 Dubai conference. Through this workshop, AIBMENA hopes to encourage new scholars into the field of IB, improve the quality of research output by discussing methods to overcome research challenges, increase research publication acceptance rates and also foster a collaborative MENA research community.

We invite original papers from junior scholars who have not previously published in JIBS or attended a previous AIBMENA JIBS workshop. In particular, we hope to attract papers from scholars (1) who are located in universities in MENA economies or in foreign universities that research MENA  or (2) who are trained in disciplines less commonly associated with the field of IB (e.g. public policy or other conventional research areas) but interested in conducting international business research.

The PDW will be structured to provide feedback to authors on their research papers, conceptual papers, case studies and it would also benefit researchers who are designing empirical studies, on international business topics.

The agenda is as follows:

Day 1

Research Challenges (for paper ideas): 10.00 am to 12.30 am

This is an interactive session – research challenges will be looked at from multiple points of view (1) Theory development and Conceptualization (2) Designing Methodology (3) Sampling (4) Data Collection (5) Findings and Discussions

Paper Development: 10.00 am to 4.00 pm

Selected full papers will go with their mentors for further feedback.

Paper Ideas Development: 1.30pm to 4.00 pm

Break into small groups and present paper ideas. Checklists for development of a paper will be given and groups will brainstorm on how to improve their paper idea.

Day 2

Paper Development (full papers and paper ideas) 10.00 am to  3.00 pm

Based on paper ideas – more developed outlines will be presented in small groups sessions.

Time will be used like in a workshop to improve the paper idea and full papers for submission.

During this time, Mentors will sit in a round table session with paper ideas and give feedback. Full papers will present papers for further feedback to the groups assigned.

Publishing (full papers and paper ideas) 3.00 pm to 4.00pm

Expectations for publishing in an A Journal will be given based on JIBS requirements and the mentors experience.

Submission Details

Participation at the PDW is limited. Participants will be invited based on the quality of their submitted work. We are expecting two types of submissions, full research papers and paper ideas. Full papers and paper ideas should be submitted to [log in to unmask] with the heading AIBMENA2016JIBSPDW. Please note that each applicant should make one submission only – either a full research paper or a paper idea. The first deadline for submission is 30 July. Please submit your paper, paper idea or an expression of interest by then. The deadline for all final submissions is 10 August, 2016. The seats will be filled on a first come basis depending on eligibility of the papers to meet IB paper standards (relevance of IB theory, multicounty study as opposed to a sample of multiple nationalities, and contribution to IB theory). Please look at the previous call for papers on the AIB website to get an idea of potential topics (see https://aib.msu.edu/events/2016/callforpapers.asp) .  Research papers must be less than 10,000 words in length, and follow the JIBS Style Guide (http://www.palgrave-journals.com/jibs/style_guide.html). Paper ideas must be no more than 3,000 words in length and include a theoretical framework, propositions, and proposed research design.

Participants will be notified about the acceptance of their submissions on case to case basis and will need to confirm their participation in the PDW by 1 August 2016 to make the necessary arrangements.

Preference will be given to participants who have not attended any of our JIBS PDWs in the past. Manuscript authors who have applied to our PDWs in the past but were not accepted to the PDW should make sure that they submit a different paper to the previous PDW.

The fee for participation is AED 500. Seats are limited and preference will be given to those who confirm and reverse their seat by paying.

AIBMENA thanks the University of Wollongong in Dubai for their help in organizing the PDW by JIBS.
