Executive Director, Texas Institute for Discovery Education in Science

The University of Texas at Austin seeks an executive director to head the Texas Institute for Discovery Education in Science (TIDES), the undergraduate teaching innovation initiative in the College of Natural Sciences. TIDES aims to catalyze, support, and showcase innovative, evidence-based undergraduate science and math education through student programming, faculty and future faculty development, and educational evaluation.
 
The executive director will collaborate in the design, implementation, and assessment of new faculty-driven undergraduate science and math education initiatives. This position supervises educators and administrative personnel associated with the College’s undergraduate research programs, including the Freshman Research Initiative; is responsible for collaborating with faculty to broaden the impact of research through undergraduate education; oversees the evaluation of program effectiveness, including impact on student progress and success; and oversees and facilitates professional development on evidence-based teaching and mentoring for faculty and future faculty. The executive director is expected to actively seek grant funding to support TIDES programming. 
 
Qualifications include: a doctoral degree in a science, math or related field; knowledge of science and math education research, with a preference for a publication history in this area; experience leading undergraduate education initiatives and university-level teaching experience. Applicants should have at least five years of experience promoting faculty professional development or institutional change; proven supervisory and budget management skills; and a record of success in obtaining grant funding and other external resources. Professional demeanor and excellent communication skills are required. Applicants must be willing and able to travel.
