The Effects of Customer Perceived Employee Support on Self-Efficacy and Behavioral Intentions: The Roles of Service Complexity and Choice Freedom
Shunzhong Liu (School of Economics and Business Administration, Central China Normal University, Wuhan, China)
The provision of self-service technologies in the service industry has increased rapidly in recent years. Despite the advantages with increased self-service technologies, removing the frontline employee support can influence customer behavioral intentions towards the service providers. According to social support theory and social cognitive theory, this study develops a conceptual model to investigate how and when perceived employee support affects customer behavioral intentions. The model is tested using a factorial between-subjects experimental design in the self-service environment of China's bank. The results show that the relationship between perceived employee support and customer self-efficacy is moderated by forced use and service complexity. Moreover, the results indicate that self-efficacy is a mediator that explains how perceived employee support may come to be associated with customer behavioral intentions towards the service providers.

Platform as a Strategy: Collective Innovation in Mobile Payment Ecosystem
Junying Zhong (Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Aalto University, Espoo, Finland), Marko Nieminen (Aalto University, Espoo, Finland)
Mobile payments are a new way to pay in the digital age. The emerging mobile payments enable viable businesses through real-time and context-specific transactions between consumers and collaborating actors. Mobile payment services realize in a multi-actor digital chain. Business interactions between actors take place in a coopetitive way: simultaneous competition and collaboration. However, little knowledge exists about mobile payment innovation strategy in coopetitive markets. This paper introduces the DISCO model (dynamics of innovation strategy in a coopetitive environment). It contributes to the exploration of strategic moves by mobile payment innovators through platform ecosystems. The results from a case study indicate that firms have the potential to be successful through collective innovation in a coopetitive environment along with the movement of their superior competencies. Moreover, the firms should pursue ways in managing the paradoxical relationships between competition and cooperation, resource allocation and combination, as well as leadership and loss-leader strategy.

An Empirical Investigation on Terrestrial and Online Gamblers' Perceptions towards e-Gambling Activities
Vaggelis Saprikis (Department of Business Administration, Technological and Educational Institute of Western Macedonia, Grevena and Kozani, Greece)
E-gambling has dramatically changed the way of wagering and nowadays even more individuals are moving from the terrestrial to online gambling venues. At the same time, it is considered as one of the fastest growing sectors of e-commerce. Characteristically, the global internet gambling gross market is expected to exceed US $43 billion by 2015. As a consequence, its dynamics has forced many researchers to investigate e-gambling scientific field from different perspectives trying to gain an improved insight into gamblers behavior in the cyberspace. The scope of this paper is to examine the perceived advantages and disadvantages of terrestrial and online gamblers towards e-gambling activities focusing on university students. Furthermore, it aims to identify possible differences and similarities between the two groups of respondents. The research results are believed to provide interesting insights to both academia and gambling industry.

Designing Smart Home Environments for Unobtrusive Monitoring for Independent Living: The Use Case of USEFIL
Homer Papadopoulos (Division of Applied Technologies, National Center for Scientific Research (NCSR) "Demokritos", Agia Paraskevi, Greece)
The "Unobtrusive Smart Environments for Independent Living" EU funded project is proposing an integrated system (USEFIL system) which intends to cope with ageing problem providing advanced, affordable and unobtrusive monitoring and web communication solutions for seniors living independently. The USEFIL system enhances social care and medical service provision by exploiting "frugal" ICT solutions such as low cost "off-the-shelf" technology and unobtrusive monitoring technologies to develop services that will assist the elderly in maintaining their independence throughout their daily activities. The project adopted the Design Science Research Methodology (DSRM) to design and develop the USEFIL system because this methodology incorporates all those principles, practices, and procedures to help us meet USEFIL systems' objectives. Aim of the paper is to demonstrate the use of the DSRM process to design an ICT solution for the case study of ICT technologies for assistive living environments for elderly people. More specifically using the theoretical lens of the Design Science Research Methodology theory the paper presents the necessary steps that have been conducted to design the USEFIL system. The USEFIL system was implemented and validated over a three year period with elderly people, their unofficial carers and doctors. Results demonstrate that the technology readily succeeds in meeting the study's initial objectives. Although the project is still running and the design specification of the USEFIL system is under continuous update, the main modules that have been designed and realized will be presented in the paper.
