Requirements: The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in science education or a closely related field. The individual should have a strong background in science education research in upper elementary, middle school, or high school students as well as considerable experience with qualitative research methods. Familiarity or interest in formative assessment is required. Experience leading and coordinating aspects of grant-related activities, such as recruitment, data collection, data analysis, and writing, is desirable. The candidate should demonstrate excellent organizational and leadership skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Applicants must be fluent in spoken and written English, and must be U.S. citizens or legal residents with authorization to work in the United States. Job Duties: The Research Associate (Postdoc) will work on a grant-sponsored project that is developing innovative science assessments for middle school students called "Dynamic Interactive Formative Assessment Tasks and End-of-Unit Tests for Measuring Challenging Concepts and Skills of Diverse Middle School Students". The researcher will be involved in several aspects of the project that are both independent and synergistic with other collaborative assessment initiatives on campus. Research activities will entail the piloting and field testing assessment materials in middle school classrooms, and coding and analyzing results. The researcher will be involved in all aspects of the project. Duties: 1. Create research-based project materials (such as literature reviews, assessment maps, assessment tasks, rubrics, and interpretation materials) 2. Coordinate research-related activities within the project, 3. Conduct qualitative analyses and interpret findings in light of contemporary literature, 4. Identify research problems and design research methodologies, which extend research of the project. 5. Assist in the writing of grants and manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals. 6. Mentor students and other project staff. 7. Perform additional duties as requested by principal investigator. Contract is for one year with eligibility for renewal, depending on funding availability and satisfactory progress.
