Earth Systems Science Instructor and Program Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Department Chair
CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The purpose
of the position of the Earth Systems Science Instructor and Program Coordinator
is to carry out activities as outlined in the grant that governs the position:
teach three courses per semester, and carry out program management and
development.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
This position reports to the Natural
Science and Technology Department Chair. This person must be accessible and
accountable in Department of Natural Sciences and Technology for both students
and public during regular office hours of 8:30 am to 4:30 p.m.
SUPERVISION:
This position is under Department Chair Supervision. The Department Chair sets the overall
objectives and resources available. Department
chair and employee, in consultation, develop deadlines, projects, and plan of
work. The employee keeps the Department
Chair informed at least monthly of progress and provides quarterly
reports. The employee informs the
Department Chair immediately of potential controversies or conflicts.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Teach three (3) courses in the Earth Sciences per semester
2. Develop six (6) new courses in Earth Science, in consultation
with STEM Department faculty.
3. Set-up, manage and maintain the implementation of an
environmental monitoring network
4. Hire and oversee student interns/workers
5. Utilize and maintain data management systems to track and
analyze data on campus.
6. Complete monthly and quarterly reports, per Supervisor
7. Contribute to annual grant reporting
8. Other duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS:
v
Previous field experience with environmental
monitoring.
v
Experience in curriculum development.
v
Experience with data management systems.
v Knowledge of and commitment to the mission, vision and goals of LLTC.
v
Knowledge and understanding of Anishinaabe
history and culture.
v
Knowledge of technological systems and software
as they apply to workplace needs.
v
Previous College teaching experience preferred.
v Demonstrated
experience and ability to work independently in completing goals and objectives
of grant projects.
v
Willingness to travel.
ABILITIES / SKILLS:

LLTC and all

EDUCATION:
A Master’s degree in Earth Science
is required (Geology, Hydrology, Meteorology, Soil Science, Physical Geography,
Water Resources Science, Natural Resources, or related fields)
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Minnesota driver's license and current auto insurance.
