> The Power of We Consortium AmeriCorps program is looking to hire 1 individual as an AmeriCorps members for December 2015- December 2016. AmeriCorps members lead community projects to increase healthy food and exercise options to Lansing residents.  This AmeriCorps position is housed at the Greater Lansing Housing Coalition.

> Commonly known as the "Domestic Peace Corps," AmeriCorps is a national service program that offers paid positions with significant professional development opportunities to individuals of all ages looking to make a difference in our community. Our AmeriCorps members spend their days with community members and volunteers conducting nutrition/cooking education, distributing food, helping residents grow their own food, and promoting exercise. The Power of We Consortium focuses on two goals to increase food security and reduce obesity and related chronic disease for Ingham County (Lansing) residents:
> 1) adult and youth nutrition education
> 2) food donation, gardening, and referrals

> The Food Security Coordinator with Greater Lansing Housing Coalition will increase the consumption of healthy food and increase food security for all of GLHC’s clients residing their five apartment complexes. The member will also coordinate with community members to teach them the importance of eating healthy foods and strategies to adopt better diets through cooking demos, nutrition workshops and container/community gardens. This is a professional development opportunity for individuals seeking experience with National Service, preventative health, public health, food justice, local food systems, sustainability, and community driven programming.

> Member will serve 1700 hours from December 2015- December 2016 and receive a living allowance of $12,530, health, dental and vison coverage, childcare if eligible, and receive student loan forbearance for qualified loans. Upon successful completion of service an education award in the amount of $5,645 will be issued. Candidates must be 18 years or older and provide documentation that they can legally work in the United States.  We are looking for individuals with a wide variety of backgrounds and life experiences.  This position is in Lansing, MI.
