MSU Infrastructure Planning and Facilities will remove all uninitialized mailboxes from the Avaya Aura Messaging system after December 4, 2015. This will allow MSU to retain unused licenses and reduce overall costs for the service.

The University switched to the new voicemail system on July 1st, 2015. Uninitialized mailboxes are voicemail boxes of users that have never checked their voicemail messages since that date. Callers to these uninitialized mailboxes will hear the mailbox name as a generic computer pronounced recording and can leave a message for these phones. If you have been actively utilizing your voicemail this does not pertain to you.

If a user's voicemail is removed during this process, the voicemail may be added by selecting REQUEST SERVICE at http://ipf.msu.edu/index.html.

If you have not yet initialized or activated your voicemail from your Avaya telephone since the upgrade, perform the following:

1. Call the voicemail system at 517-432-0000 or 2-0000.

2. Enter your previous password or STATE (78283) and press the pound key (#).

3. Follow the prompts to change your password.

a. When customers log in to the new system for the first time, they will be required to change their PIN to meet new password standards. The new standard requires a password of at least four non-sequential or repeating numbers that does not include the user's extension.

4. Follow the prompts to record your name.

5. Follow the prompts to record your personal greeting.

6. Those customers that had messages forwarded to their email automatically through the Unified Messaging service will need to reset this service. (This is accomplished by selecting preferences after logging into the system at http://www.telecom.msu.edu/vm)

Call 517-353-5515 if you need assistance, and/or you can view guides at http://ipf.msu.edu/services/avaya-aura-messaging.html
