The Office of Academic Research headed by the Associate Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic Affairs (Research) is looking to recruit two interrelated research faculty positions to provide research in business ICT solutions and business operations research. The successful candidates will primarily focus on research and teach one course per semester up to a maximum two courses per academic year in their relevant field. For teaching purposes, the suitable candidate will be expected to work closely with the Grant Writer to solicit and generate research funds to sustain their subsequent research activities and surplus for scale up. The university will subsidize their salary 100% in the first year, and thereafter, the university will only pay 25% while the researcher remains self-sufficient for the remaining 75%.  The position is a performance based three (3) year renewable contract.
Key responsibilities

  *   Effectively engage and focus business ICT solutions and business operations research
  *   Teach a course per semester up to a maximum of two per year in relevant research field
  *   Provide research mentorship to faculty, students and other relevant stakeholders including offering research capacity workshops
  *   Work in an interdisciplinary collaborative environment to develop innovative solutions for technological, industrial and institutional problems in aid of national and global development
  *   Enhance ties with individual companies and industrial associations through continuous engagement with these partners to ensure that industry problems and challenges are timely identified and related research initiative are established to address them
  *   Commercialize the research outputs
Qualifications and Experience

  *   A PhD or equivalent degree from an accredited university
  *   At least four years of progressive experience in a relevant field with a reputable organization
  *   Experience in relevant industry R&D or closely related engagements and experience in building and developing applied and fundamental research & development projects and organizations
Expertise: ICT Research Position
The suitable candidate for the ICT research faculty position should have expertise in a combination of at least three of the following areas:

  *   Infrastructure solutions for ICT such as coverage of difficult areas.
  *   Fibre deployment solutions for buildings, streets, roads etc.
  *   Software applications in health, transport, environment, security, and safety issues.
  *   ICT Power solutions and applications.
  *   Development of ICT products and quality deployment of ICT solutions.
  *   Communications signal coverage and optimal use of limited resources.
  *   Supportive research evidence for policy, best practices and standards development in ICT
Expertise: Business Operations Research Position
The suitable candidate for the business operations research position should have expertise in a combination of at least three of the following areas:

  *   Management Analysis
  *   Operations Research Analysis
  *   Economic and Forecasting Analysis
  *   Accounting and Financial Research Analysis
  *   Business Development Analysis
  *   Market Research Analysis
  *   Human Resources Needs and Management Analysis
  *   Analyze human resources policies and job requirements and content in order to establish criteria for classification, selection, training, and other related personnel functions.
Skills

  *   Good communication, coaching and interpersonal skills
  *   Superior written, verbal and organizational skills
  *   Excellent interpersonal skills
  *   Good research  synthesis and analytical skills
Competence

  *   Must be very competent in professional writing fluent in English. Fluency in other international languages will be an added advantage
  *   Ability to work closely with high level staff/faculty and university committees
  *   Ability to provide intellectual leadership and development of local technical and business solutions
  *   Have the drive, enthusiasm and passion for research & development, industrial development and change management.
  *   A member of a relevant professional body with some industry certifications in the relevant field
  *   Knowledgeable in intellectual property rights and experience in patent registration
  *   Possess managerial and leadership abilities
  *   Intellectual versatility and ability to provide training and talent development within the relevant field
