Hi everyone,
We are hoping to transition to Campus AD exchange within the next few months. I am therefore trying to avoid the necessity of changing my users' primary SMTP addresses to rcpd.msu.edu, then back again to msu.edu or campusad.msu.edu whenever that time comes. I have noticed that if I leave my primary smtp address as [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>, Outlook still seems to work fine, but now that autodiscover.msu.edu is online, it tries to query that server and continuously prompts for credentials, even though it remains connected to our Exchange server. I'm assuming anticipation of this behavior is what prompted IT Services to recommend changing primary SMTP addresses to something other than msu.edu in the first place?
At any rate, I have found what could be a short term workaround for the issue. On my own machine, I have modified the hosts file to give autodiscover.msu.edu the address 0.0.0.0. This solves the issue of Outlook trying to connect to autodiscover.msu.edu and prompting for credentials, yet doesn't seem to break anything else. Other than needing to remember that this line is there, and removing it before migrating to campusad, can anyone think of any other downsides to this approach?
Thanks,
