>
> In this session, we seek to provide examples of teacher preparation programs that support the development of STEM teacher- and administrator-leaders who establish equitable and engaging learning environments in K-12 (geo)science education.
>
> K-12 students, and perhaps especially girls, and ethnic minority and/or low socio-economic status students, seem to flourish academically and behaviorally when their classroom environments reflect equity, diversity and multiculturalism. Classrooms that demonstrate equitable learning opportunities that are conveyed through diverse pedagogical methods, and surroundings that honor the numerous globally-based cultures that comprise American communities also seem to contribute to students’ long term self-esteem and success as life-long learners.
>
> As always, it is important to understand the metrics and evaluative processes that inform us further about the impact of identified methods and strategies on classroom environments. Which strategies actually do work to generate confident, accomplished STEM students of all ethnicities/races, genders, personal identities, and abilities?
>
> Please consider submitting an abstract/presentation to this session. Please include considerations of data on student demography, enrollment and degrees, and preparation and recruitment for higher education.Topics to be addressed include curriculum content, pedagogy, and technology, with data and outcomes. This session will provide a forum to explore (geo)education and teacher preparation programs.
