Call for Papers: Special Issue on “Entrepreneurship in the Creative Industry in Africa”
Vanessa Ratten and Nnamdi Madichie

There is an abundance of entrepreneurship in the creative industry in Africa (broadly defined as Sub-Saharan Africa and North Africa)including music, dance, festivals and the movie industry. Due to the competitive nature of the creative industry many entrepreneurs inAfrica are focusing on Europe and North America in order to increase their popularity and ensure longevity in an otherwise short lifespan industry. These creative entrepreneurs from Africa have changed the way music is viewed by tapping into political issues in the European Union and utilising their own innovative marketing campaigns. The rising economic powerhouses of countries in Africa including Nigeria and Ghana have exported creative entrepreneurs to Western Europe and the United States. In addition, despite many countries in Africa being developing countries, the entrepreneurship occurring within the creative industry surpasses that in many developed countries due to the role of innovation and creativity.
This Call for Papers solicits contributions from authors that can demonstrate clear links with Africa in papers that may be general reviews, conceptual paper and case studies on the creative industry pertaining to Africa (broadly defined to include both North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa). Sectors and/ or sub-sectors may also include mega-events, film festivals (e.g. FESPACO), music festivals (e.g. WOMAD), theatre, dance etc.
Papers submitted for this special issue will add to the emerging literature on creative entrepreneurship but also the interdisciplinaryentrepreneurship field, which includes sport, lifestyle and arts entrepreneurship. Authors are asked to utilise the literature on entrepreneurship in the creative industry to focus on the innovative and entrepreneurial activities occurring in Africa. We welcomeempirical, conceptual and general review papers as well as case studies.
Deadline for submissions 30 August 2015
