Andrew Thomas and I have just published The Customer Trap: How to Avoid the Biggest Mistake in Business,
a sequel to The Distribution Trap, which won the Berry-American
Marketing Association Prize for the best marketing book of 2010. One of the arguments in the book is that
a great deal of U.S. foreign direct investment is the result of pressure from large-scale customers (e.g. Walmart, Amazon, Home Depot). Manufacturers are engaging in FDI because they are being forced to outsource by their Mega Customers. For
