Dear Colleagues,

I am delighted to announce that my new book on China's Path to Innovation has been published by Cambridge University Press recently.

This book investigates how China can develop a strategy of compressed development to emerge as a leading innovative nation, with a special focus on the role of international technology transfer through FDI, trade and indigenous innovation in the process.  The book examined the impact of inward FDI and trade on China's technological take-off, and analysed the role of MNE-driven processing trade and global value chain participation in China's high technology industry development.

It also discussed the changing effects and importance of international technology transfer and indigenous innovation in countries of different development stage, and what combination of these channels that different countries should pursue so as to achieve their different development goals.

In the final part, the book investigated the potentail contributions of internationalisation, outward direct investment, and international collaboration to China's transition from an imitator to an innovator based on case studies of Huawei and ZTE and statistical analysis of large firm level survey data.
