o   Office Location: Jackson County, 1715 Lansing Ave. Jackson MI. Personal transportation/ mobility necessary
o   May 2015 until end of August 2015, some flexibility may exist. The work is tentatively planned for sixteen 25 hour weeks
o   Background Summary: Municipalities and County Governments are increasingly looking to innovative programs to improve health outcomes community wide. One such innovative program is introducing school gardening curricula to improve health and wellbeing throughout the community. School gardens have been shown to improve nutritional and physical activity outcomes as well as create a greater awareness of where the food we eat comes from.  MSU Extension in Jackson County is seeking an intern to create a quantitative evaluation tool for an existing school garden program in Jackson County. The intern will develop the instrument for the curriculum, pilot the instrument in the summer school garden program, and make adjustments as necessary based on their experiences with delivery. If the intern wishes, they may observe or participate in delivery of one garden program currently established as part of their internship.

·         Urban Collaborators – Saginaw
o   Summer Intern
o   Office Location: MSU Extension- Genesee County, Flint, Michigan or Saginaw County, Saginaw, MI; Personal transportation/ mobility necessary
o   May 15th – August 15th 2015
o   Maximum 400 hours//$12 per hour
o   Background Summary: Saginaw and Flint, like other Michigan cities, have experienced disinvestment, loss of population and loss of employment in the last three decades. These cities have also benefited from a number of modest efforts to revitalize in recent years including public and private investment. Both Genesee and Saginaw County has a great variety of people, communities, and industries that enrich the region.   Intern would gather materials to support local food system economic development programs.  In Flint, this may revolve around assisting a cooperative group of growers to market produce in the Flint area as well as assist with summer program from edible flint.  In Saginaw, this may include gathering information on local food establishments in the region, assisting with the Downtown Saginaw Farmers’ Market or a new project.  Also work with Extension staff to promote the work of Extension and partners which may include drafting press releases, stories, pictures, maps and other summaries of information useful to partners and media.

Please encourage all of your interested students to apply!  Thank you again!
