Have you received any reply to your inquiry? The reason I ask is that I am part of the team of Hostmasters for MSU and maybe able to help. Specifically, are you talking about the DNS role on your AD DC which only serves the clients connected to your domain? Let me know if I can help.

Just curious if anyone has outlined a best practice for configuring departmental DNS servers on campus? Is there a particular server we should be using as a forwarder, or should we just rely on root hints?
