Most faculty members in MISE hold joint appointments with science departments and a joint appointment in the Department Geography will accompany the position.  The MISE mission is to promote quality science education. The successful candidate is expected to have a demonstrated commitment to support the success of students from underrepresented groups.

The successful candidate is expected to establish a research agenda and externally-funded research program in science education, climate change education, and/or meteorology education. Professional responsibilities also comprise teaching undergraduate and graduate classes that may include, but are not limited to: Graduate Seminars and Research Methods in Science Education, Meteorology and Climate for pre-service elementary education students, basic physical geography, and meteorology and climatology for aviation, geography, and science undergraduate students. Supervision of graduate students in teaching the Meteorology and Climate course for pre-service elementary education students is also expected.

MISE and the Department of Geography at Western Michigan University (one of the top-100 public universities in the United States) are fully committed to the priorities of a “discovery driven, learner centered, and globally engaged” university. MISE is one of the most active, externally supported research units at WMU, confers Masters and PhD degrees, and supports the general education mission of the College of Arts and Sciences and the University. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has placed WMU among the 76 public institutions in the nation designated as research universities with high research activities.

Please visit www.wmujobs.org. The appointment process at Western Michigan University requires that each applicant submit a comprehensive vita or set of placement credentials and arrange for the transmittal of at least three recent letters of recommendation.
