Dear all,

Happy New Year! To kick off 2015, I thought I would email you all with a proposal that may hopefully make our lives/work a little easier.

As an interdisciplinary researcher I am often surprised at the diverse range of people that I meet that are interested in how the geosciences interact with society and all the consequent implications for education, communication, governance and public decision making. I am also surprised by how many of these people I don’t know and as such I have decided to start an online group to help those of us interested in this boundary between the geological and social sciences to get in touch – a sort of online meeting space.

I have included you in this email list because we may have talked about this in the past at a meeting or a conference (or on twitter), or you have expressed an interest on behalf of yourself or a colleague. As such I have included a link to this online page and if you are interested I encourage you to sign up (it’s free) and start sharing your advice, thoughts or ideas. Alternatively if you think this may be useful to someone else – a new, or established researcher – then please feel free to pass it on. I am aware that there are many people like myself who are studying the interface between geology (or geological issues such as energy or land-use) and society and because we often work from different departments we miss out on connections that other researchers in a more traditional field take for granted. It is my hope that with this space we can build our own community, which will improve opportunities for us all.

Many thanks and if you have any ideas or comments please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Kind regards,

Hazel
