The Selection Committee for the JIBS Decade Award is pleased to announce that the article "Probing theoretically into Central and Eastern Europe: transactions, resources, and institutions" by Klaus Meyer (China Europe International Business School) and Mike Peng (The University of Texas at Dallas) has been selected as the winner of the 2015 JIBS Decade Award. The award, sponsored by Palgrave Macmillan, is designed to recognize the most influential paper published in the Journal of International Business Studies ten years prior and is presented at the annual AIB conference. In order to be considered for the JIBS Decade Award, an article must be one of the five most cited articles published in JIBS for the year being considered. This year's Selection Committee members were Mark Peterson (Chair, selected by the JIBS Editor-in-Chief), the current AIB Program Chair Ram Mudambi, and AIB Vice President Administration Elizabeth Rose. JIBS Editor-in-Chief John Cantwell was an ex officio, non-voting committee member. The Selection Committee examined total citations, total number of journals citing the paper, and total number of leading journals (excluding JIBS) citing the paper to determine the top five most cited articles. The Committee read and discussed the top five nominees and then voted on the winning article. In recommending the award-winning article, the Committee noted that: "Meyer and Peng contributed an influential theory paper that examines transition and emerging economies with a focus on those in Central and Eastern Europe. In the hands of two major IB scholars, it is an elegantly designed paper put across as a series of challenges that the changes in these economic areas pose for extant theory. The institutional lens is particularly apposite and married very nicely with organizational economics and resource-based theories. The entrant-incumbent model from industrial organization provides a creative way of framing the issues. As a finishing touch, the authors' also incorporate entrepreneurial entry in their model. The fact that this paper retains its currency and relevance a decade after its publication makes it a worthy winner of this award." A session will be held at the upcoming 2015 AIB Annual Meeting in Bengaluru, India, in which Profs. Meyer and Peng and invited discussants, Mark Peterson (Florida Atlantic University; 2015 committee chair) and Tatiana Kostova (University of South Carolina) and Tomas Hult (Michigan State University), will comment on the paper. A reception honoring the Decade Award winning paper and its author will also be held as part of the closing reception at the conference.
