Does your classroom instruction include "flipped" or "hybrid" strategies? If so, please consider submitting an abstract  to our GSA session  "Successful Models of Blended/Hybrid Learning Environments in the Geosciences" (T65) for the Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America in Vancouver, Canada (October 19-22, 2014). 

Many geoscience instructors are combining online resources and face-to-face classes to create blended or hybrid learning environments. One popularized version of this format is the "flipped class" that requires students to complete low level learning tasks outside of class and uses class time to work on higher level learning tasks. While there has been considerable media attention devoted to this idea, there is relatively little research on the merits of such teaching/learning environments. This session seeks to identify successful examples of this relatively new instructional model, especially those that show evidence of learning assessment to compare against fully online or face-to-face classes.
