Hi, Folks, *(apologies for multiple posts)* If you use a case study (story line) in teaching geologic topics to undergraduates, please consider submitting an abstract to the Case Study session at GSA this fall. We're looking for a couple of invited speakers as well so if you have a lot of experience with this teaching format and/or have collected data on its effectiveness as a teaching modality, please contact me by Monday to receive a PIN for the session (this also allows you to submit more than one abstract for an oral session). Below are the details: T-54 On-Ramp to the Research Highway: Case Studies in Undergraduate Geoscience Courses Rationale: Case studies can be effectively employed in undergraduate geosciences curricula to engage students in learning about the research process. Geoscience research-skills development is particularly well suited to a case-study approach because much geoscience research is spatial and directly impacts humanity. Case studies have become important tools for enhancing student learning, and this session will showcase best-practices, example case studies, or research on the benefits of this approach. Description: This session will focus on how case studies can introduce students to undergraduate research. We invite presentations that share best-practices, example case studies, or research on the benefits of this approach. Have an perfect weekend :). -Suki ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Suzanne M (Suki) Smaglik Professor, Earth & Physical Sciences Central Wyoming College 2660 Peck Ave Riverton, WY 82501 307-855-2146 [log in to unmask] "She who laughs, lasts." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
