13-16th October 2014

Multidisciplinary Academic Conference

Shaping A Future Research Agenda for Investment for Development

The Multidisciplinary Academic Conference is the central academic platform within the 2014 World Investment Forum (WIF). Its objective is to facilitate collective, multidisciplinary brainstorming aimed at developing a shared vision and shaping the future research agenda for investment in sustainable development.

The Academic Conference consists of two segments:

First, during 13-16 October, academics will participate in a series of high-profile meetings held as part of the WIF and devoted to different aspects of investment in sustainable development (for the full WIF programme visit http://unctad-worldinvestmentforum.org/). Academics will benefit from interaction and networking with key investment stakeholders, including Heads of State, business executives, policymakers, negotiators, civil society and others. The WIF will take place at the Palais des Nations, in Geneva.

Second, on Wednesday 15 October, academics will engage in a multidisciplinary academic debate, which will be held in the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies of Geneva, close to the Palais des Nations. This segment is organised around four “tracks”, each of which involves discussions amongst academics from multiple disciplinary backgrounds. To take part in this segment, please see the call for participation below.

Four “tracks” of debate

Academics will engage in multidisciplinary, joint discussions of future research priorities, crafting a shared vision and a forward-looking research agenda. Four “tracks” have been chosen to help focus this debate.

Track 1. Financing investment for sustainable development
Track 2. Enhancing the sustainable development impact of international investment
Track 3. Raising productive investment in and attractiveness of structurally weak, vulnerable and small economies
Track 4. National and international policies for sustainable investment

Call for participation in one of the four “tracks”
