July 8, 2014 CALL FOR PAPERS [PDF attached] JIBS Paper Development Workshop Academy of International Business, Western Europe Chapter EIBA 2014 | Uppsala, Sweden Thursday, December 11, 2014 Submission deadline: September 1, 2014 The 2014 AIB-WE Chapter Journal of International Business Studies Paper Development Workshop (JIBS-PDW) will be held in Uppsala, Sweden, from 9:00 to 13:00 on Thursday, December 11, 2014, as part of the pre- conference program for the Academy of International Business, Western Europe (AIB-WE) Chapter annual meeting. The PDW is the most extensive of the various JIBS outreach activities conducted by the JIBS editorial team. Organized by José Pla-Barber (University of Valencia) and Ulf Andersson (JIBS Area Editor), the 2014 JIBS-PDW involves JIBS editors, many experienced scholars, and editorial board members. The purpose of the PDW is to provide junior scholars with developmental feedback on their current research projects in international business studies. While we hope that many of these papers will be eventually submitted to JIBS, the purpose of the PDW is broader: to improve the quality of IB research and bring new scholars into the IB field. We invite original papers from junior authors or junior faculty members who have not previously published in JIBS. In particular, we hope to attract papers from scholars (1) who are located in universities in emerging economies or in universities that offer limited support for international business research, or (2) who are trained in disciplines less commonly associated with the field (e.g., human geography, political science, ethnography, or economic history) but interested in conducting international business research. The JIBS-PDW is structured to provide feedback to authors with research papers, and to researchers who are designing empirical studies, on International Business topics. Last year, PDW participants received feedback on their work from eight JIBS editors, members of the Consulting Editors Board (CEB), Editorial Review Board (ERB), and other experienced scholars. The 2014 program will start with an introductory session led by JIBS Area Editor Ulf Andersson. The participants will then be divided into groups. Authors will be paired with CEB, ERB, and guest editors, for two-on- two discussions where two guest editors will provide feedback to three authors on improving their papers. Participation at the 2014 JIBS-PDW is limited to 12 papers. Participants will be invited based on the quality of their submitted work. Papers should be submitted to AIB-WE Chapter Chair, José Pla- Barber ([log in to unmask]). Please note that each applicant can make one submission only. The deadline for submissions is September 1, 2014 in your time zone. Research papers must be less than 10,000 words in length, and follow the JIBS Style Guide (http://www.palgrave- journals.com/jibs/style_guide.html). Participants will be notified about the acceptance of their submissions by no later than October 1, 2014 and will need to confirm their participation in the Uppsala JIBS-PDW by October 15, 2014. They will then be invited to submit a revised manuscript (the version to be discussed at the JIBS-PDW) by November 15, 2014. Preference will be given to participants who have not attended any JIBS-PDWs in the past. Manuscript authors who have applied in the past but were not accepted to the PDW should make sure that they submit a different paper to this year’s JIBS-PDW. Each applicant is allowed to make only one paper submission to the JIBS-PDW, and may also have submitted this paper for presentation at the EIBA 2014 Conference. NOTE: All participants must register for the EIBA 2014 Conference (www.eiba2014.org) before they confirm their attendance at the JIBS- PDW. The JIBS-PDW will be held between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Thursday December 11,2014, at the University of Uppsala, as part of the pre- conference program taking place before the formal start of the EIBA 2014 Conference that same afternoon. JIBS-PDW participants should therefore plan to arrive in Uppsala the evening before, during which there may also be an informal get-together organized (TBC).
