>> The International Association for Geoscience Diversity (IAGD) is pleased to offer a completely accessible field course during the 2014 Geological Society of America Annual Meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. This fully-inclusive field course will include five stops along the picturesque Howe Sound fjord on the Sea-to-Sky Highway (HWY 99) between Metro Vancouver and Whistler. The primary objectives of this course are to bring students with disabilities and geoscience faculty together to identify and work through the barriers of geoscience field studies while learning about the geology of Vancouver. Additionally, this course will build interest in the earth and environment, and promote the geosciences as a viable degree and career option for students with diverse physical abilities. This trip and associated activities will occur October 17-19, with time after the trip for all participants to enjoy the GSA conference and sightseeing around Vancouver.
>>
>> Thirty (30) participants will be selected for this fully-inclusive and collaborative field course: Fifteen (15) current geoscience faculty and fifteen (15) students. In order to spark interest in tomorrow’s geoscience majors, preference will be given to high school and non-declared undergraduates with physical disabilities (mobility, vision, hearing), as well as military veterans with acquired disabilities who are interested in pursuing a career in the geosciences.
>>
>> Students may bring a personal assistant, or have one provided for them during the course. Travel grants will be provided to all accepted faculty and student participants, and their personal assistants.
>>
>> Applications for both students and faculty are now being accepted. To apply, please complete the application form at: http://www.tinyurl.com/lwomoej.
>>
>> Participant selection will begin on June 1st. Do NOT delay, submit your application today!!
