Lansing Roots Farm – Small Scale Farming Workshop Series
The Greater Lansing Food Bank's Lansing Roots Farm is offering a workshop series on topics to enhance small-scale farming.  Lansing Roots is designed to help limited resource or historically underserved individuals start successful market gardening and farming through an incubator farm setting.

Cost for Workshop: Donations are requested on a sliding scale from $5-15 (pay what you are able)

Soil Fertility and Organics Workshop TODAY!!

Vicki Morrone, the Organic Vegetable and Crop Specialist at MSU's Center for Regional Food Systems will discuss the basics of organic soil fertility and how growers can optimize their soil fertility through a variety of methods.

Safety and Maintenance for Small Engines and Hand Tools

Brad Graham, the Gardens and Gleaning Coordinator for the Garden Project of the Greater Lansing Food Bank will lead participants through the best practices for safely using, maintaining, and repairing common hand and mechanical garden tools.



Food Safety

Learn the ins and outs of on the farm food safety with Jen Silveri, Water Stewardship Technician for the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP).  She will explain why and how to create an on-farm food safety plan as well as the best agricultural practices to verify that fruits and vegetables are produced, packed, handled, and stored in the safest manner possible.

Join the MSU Student Organic Farm Production Manager, Dan Fillius as he shares strategies and tools for managing weeds in vegetable gardens and small farm settings.

Organic Integrated Pest Management
August 4th 6:00-7:30, Lansing Roots Farm 1084 S. Hagadorn Rd., Mason, MI 48854
Joe Riddle, MSU Integrated Pest Management Graduate Student will discuss the theory and practice of Organic Integrated Pest Management for small-scale farm operations. Joe will lead participants on a “farm walk” where he will identify diseases and pests and ways to avoid or treat them.
