Subject: Join us in ³Celebrating Southwest² on May 3rd for our Cinco de Mayo concert/festival
Importance: High

Dear Music and Culture Friends and Fans,

In my current position as Director of Community Engagement at Southwest Solutions I am working with a committee of residents and artists in organizing  a multicultural series on the plaza outside of the Mercado (Ford Resource and Engagement Center) located at 2826 Bagley, between 20th and 21st street. It is near the Ambassador Bridge, just on block south of Vernor. As you will note from the attached  “Celebrating Southwest Schedule”, the series, which already has showcased 2 cultures and a holiday celebration since October 2013, kicks off the spring and summer period with a 8 more concerts from May 3rd to our October 4th celebration of Native American Heritage.

Our Cinco de Mayo concert, is scheduled for May 3rd from 3 to 7pm and will present national talent, Mex X from Florida among others, to join Detroit’s own but nationally known Motor City Rockerz and the Ballet de los Renacidos in providing a unique dance overview from traditional folkloric traditions  to more current dance moves.  Thus the title “Old School meets New School”. Then we will highlight  homegrown youth talent, Mariachi Juvenil Detroit,  bred over the past few years at COMPAS (Center of Music and Performing Arts-Southwest).  This group of young people has started to attract significant local attention. A press release is attached which gives more detail on the day's festivities.

As you will note from our updated schedule there is so much more to come! A Multicultural Summer Carnaval, Irish/Mexican Festival, Arab World Celebration, a celebration of the African World Diaspora, a Festival of Nations, and Hispanic/Latino Month and Native American Heritage Celebrations. So stay tune for future updates!

So again I hope to see you and all those you can bring, family, friends and loved ones, to this great celebration. Please pass along  to your contacts and friends.

Thank you,

Osvaldo “Ozzie” Rivera
