> Position Description:
> 
> GrowNYC in partnership with the New York City Coalition Against Hunger is seeking a full-time VISTA member to help advance Grow to Learn: The Citywide School Garden Initiative. The VISTA member will work to increase access to nutritious food options by supporting school garden and nutrition education efforts in NYC public and charter schools as well as increasing utilization of benefits by creating and distributing a targeted toolkit to help school gardeners and their families become aware of opportunities to use SNAP benefits at farmers’ markets.

> GrowNYC’s Grow to Learn program  mission is a garden for every NYC public and charter school so that all students have the opportunity to grow food and develop healthier eating behavior, become better environmental stewards, experience rich academic learning environments and directly improve their communities.
> 
>  
> AmeriCorps VISTA members serving with GrowNYC will:
> 
> §  Streamline registration and mini-grant application processes
> 
> §  Develop website content
> 
> §  Improve our data collection and management
> 
> §  Provide training for school gardeners in grant-writing and gardening
> 
> §  Connect NYC school gardeners via social media and newsletters
> 
> §  Test and improve our evaluation tools through site visits
> 
> §  Provide direct technical and material support to help school gardens bloom
> 
> §  Create a school garden family toolkit with information about access to local and healthy food, including SNAP, CSA’s, Greenmarkets and other resources
> 
> §  Assist with other tasks as defined by supervisor
> 
>  
> Well-qualified candidates will ideally possess:
> 
> §           Strong verbal and written communications skills
> 
> §           Highly organized with the ability to multitask
> 
> §           Strong attention to detail
> 
> §           Basic gardening/farming and horticulture knowledge

> §           Comfortable working outside in inclement weather and in a variety of conditions

> §           Team player who works well with others as well as independently
> 
> §           Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

> Time Commitment:
> 
> This is a one year, full-time position beginning July 21, 2014. You are expected to be available for the needs of your community and project at all times, including days, nights and weekends. Because AmeriCorps VISTA service requires a full immersion in the project and community, both full and part-time employment are strictly prohibited - no exceptions – as well as adhere to some political and religious activities.
