Work environment
The Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) of Radboud University Nijmegen in
the Netherlands is an academic centre of research and higher learning,
focusing on institutional complexity and managerial issues within and
between organizations in both the public and private domain. There are seven
focus areas within the NSM: Business Administration, Public Administration,
Political Science, Economics, Social and Political Sciences of the
Environment, Human Geography, and Spatial Planning. The NSM strives for a
multidisciplinary approach whenever possible. Altogether, the NSM employs
220 full-time staff, of whom 75% are academics. The NSM has about 3,000
students.

The Department of Business Administration is one of the four departments
within the NSM and consists of five chairs: Strategy, Marketing,
Organizational Design and Development, Strategic Human Resources Management
and Research Methods. What sets the Nijmegen curriculum in Business
Administration apart is that it takes a Responsible Organization perspective
on Business Administration. This focus reflects a broader view concerning
the developments within the discipline of management itself. In the
curriculum, the standard course listing is therefore combined with classes
that put Business Administration within an ethical, historical,
philosophical, institutional, and methodological perspective. As such, the
curriculum reflects the research of the Department of Business
Administration, which is also characterized by a multidisciplinary approach.
Research within the Strategy group can be divided into three core generic
themes: stakeholder management and strategic decision making; strategic
responses to institutional complexity; and strategic reorientation and
organization restructuring.
