Emergency services such as food banks have become a key link in providing food security for people in need. If you'd like some hands-on opportunities to see how food banks help provide for so many, I encourage you volunteer with the Greater Lansing Food Bank. See opportunities below.

Winter...Will It Ever End?

If you're anything like us, you are tired of snow, ice, and temperatures WAY below normal! These first couple months of 2014 have certainly tested our patience! Unfortunately, hunger in our community doesn't care if it's 10 degrees or 40 degrees.

Want to pass the time until Spring doing something good for yourself and others? We have lots of food in the warehouse that still needs to be evaluated and sorted before it can go out to our pantries and into the homes of needy families. Fill out our volunteer application online here (while you're there, check out our new improved website!), or give Sarah a call at (517) 908-3698.

Be on the lookout! We've got lots of fun opportunities to volunteer coming up in April and May, from a fundraising dinner/auction to an outdoor micro-brew and music festival to our biggest food drive of the year! Look for more information in our March e-newsletter.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Food Sorting
Monday-Friday 9 am to 11 am or 12 noon, or 1 to 3 pm - some evening and weekend availability for groups of 10 or more.

Organization is essential and the donations from our community need to be sorted in order to be distributed. In our Mint Road warehouse you will be sorting produce, canned goods, dry goods, frozen product, you name it! We are always looking for enthusiastic, reliable  individuals and groups to help. The warehouse temperature varies with the weather, so be sure to dress in layers and wear closed-toe shoes. Standing, bending, and some lifting are required. Contact Sarah to set up an orientation for yourself or a group workday.

Food Movers Assistant
Mondays and Fridays we can use volunteers to assist Food Movers with picking up prepared foods from area businesses and delivering them to our agencies. This is a great way to visit our donors and the people who distribute food to the community! Shifts run from 9 am to between 12 and 2 pm. Email us for more information.

Think warm and sunny thoughts, and join us at the Food Bank!
