Hello Gary and all,
I am forwarding you the email from my server/network admin that set this up:

Setting it up with Windows Server 2012 was actually fairly easy and depending on your environment could be accomplished in a day. MUCH easier than 2008 which was ended up being a multi-day process and quite frankly pretty ridiculous.
It does indeed require Win7 Enterprise/Ultimate or Win8 Enterprise. One limitation is that you cannot connect to resources in your domain over Direct Access by using IPv4 addresses as it requires hostname or native IPv6 I believe.

We have quite a few external fundraisers and the absolutely love this hands down over the SSL VPN. Once connect to an internet source, the tunnel is established quickly and their laptop works just like it was in the office. The downsides: Only works with the OSs that are stated above and the device has to be in the domain.

Out of curiosity, how hard did you find the Direct Access stuff to set up? I remember looking at it briefly at one point and deciding I didn't have the time to really deal with it at the time, plus it needing the enterprise version of win 7 turned me off some, but I've often wondered if it would be easier for our users than how we do things now.

Hello,
At University Advancement we have two different systems. First, for our domain laptops we are using Microsoft's Direct Access with great success. If the user does not have a domain laptop we allow them to connect via Juniper SSL VPN.

What are others doing with VPN? Do you run your own or use MSU VPN. We are starting to getting more phone calls from our users that the MSU VPN is not working. When users call the help desk they tell the problem. I don't want to put in our own VPN but looking more like that's what I may have to do.
