The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites nominations and applications for the newly created position of Vice Provost for International Affairs and Global Strategies. The University of Illinois is a major land-grant university committed to excellence in research, teaching and public engagement. The University seeks an entrepreneurial, creative and broadly experienced individual to lead an expanding program of activities in international education and global engagement.

This announcement presents an exciting opportunity for an innovative leader in international higher education to work in a dynamic and increasingly internationalized campus environment. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is a pre-eminent public research university, with extensive global reach and impact. More than 9,000 international students are currently enrolled at Illinois—the largest international student population of any US public institution of higher education. In addition, more than 2,000 Illinois students typically participate in some form of learning abroad experience each year. Illinois is home to six federally funded Title VI National Resource Centers, a European Union Center of Excellence, and several other area studies and thematic centers with international foci. Scholarship and engagement activities of faculty and students affiliated with these centers or otherwise engaging innovative research with an international dimension are further supported largest library collection of any U.S. public  university (and the fifth largest collection, overall, in the nation), with a dedicated International & Area Studies Library that houses over 2 million volumes in more than 150 different languages. The University of Illinois ranks consistently among the top 25 institutions world-wide in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (in the top 5 in the areas of Engineering/Technology and Computer Sciences), and among the top 40 institutions world-wide in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. In addition to the elevation and re-envisioning of the role of its senior international officer, a consistent and expanding institutional commitment to the international enterprise at Illinois includes a dedicated and experienced staff of approximately 80 full-time employees in the office of International Programs and Studies to implement the successful candidate's vision.
