The Selection Committee for the JIBS Decade Award is pleased to announce that the article "Innovation, organizational capabilities, and the born-global firm" by Gary Knight (Williamette University) and Tamer Cavusgil (Georgia State University) has been selected as the winner of the 2014 JIBS Decade Award. The award, sponsored by Palgrave Macmillan, is designed to recognize the most influential paper published in the Journal of International Business Studies ten years prior and is presented at the annual AIB conference. In order to be considered for the JIBS Decade Award, an article must be one of the five most cited articles published in JIBS for the year being considered. This year's Selection Committee members were Ivo Zander (Chair, selected by the JIBS Editor-in-Chief), the previous AIB Program Chair Patricia McDougall, and AIB Vice President Administration Elizabeth Rose. JIBS Editor-in-Chief John Cantwell was an ex officio, non-voting committee member. The Selection Committee examined total citations, total number of journals citing the paper, and total number of leading journals (excluding JIBS) citing the paper to determine the top five most cited articles. The Committee read and discussed the top five nominees and then voted on the winning article. In recommending the award-winning article, the Committee noted that: "A landmark study in the rapidly expanding field of research on born-global firms, the Knight and Cavusgil (2004) paper made a timely contribution to our understanding of the organizational and strategic blueprints of early and rapidly internationalizing firms. The authors earned their results the old-fashioned way, through original data collection and model development, leading the way towards an increasingly refined understanding of the particular nature of the born-global firm. The paper's impact has been broad-based, extending well beyond the Journal of International Business Studies and into neighboring fields of research." A session will be held at the upcoming 2014 AIB Annual Meeting in Vancouver in which Profs. Knight and Cavusgil and two invited discussants, Ivo Zander (Uppsala University; 2014 committee chair) and Nicole Coviello (Wilfred Laurier University), will comment on the paper. A reception honoring the Decade Award winning paper and its author will also be held as part of the closing reception at the conference. We hope that you will join us in Vancouver to attend these events; the date and times will be available at http://aib.msu.edu/events/2014/ when the conference program is finalized. A retrospective by the authors, together with the discussants' commentaries, will be published in the first issue of the 2015 volume of the Journal of International Business Studies. ------------------- Anne Hoekman Managing Editor, Journal of International Business Studies JIBS Editorial Office Academy of International Business Michigan State University Tel: +1-517-481-3518 Fax: +1-517-432-1009 Email: [log in to unmask] Web: www.jibs.net Want to stay up-to-date on JIBS?
