This two-year program is designed for those seeking mastery in the art and
business of farming and will dig deep into planning, designing and running
integrated farming systems. Intern candidates must have 2-3 years of prior
vegetable production experience, a deep commitment to learning, a
willingness to commit two years to the program, and strong farm
references. Spanish language skills are highly recommended. A personal
visit and interview with Blue Fox Farm and the Rogue Farm Corps is required.

delegation to the 58th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW-58), which
will be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City from March
10-21, 2014. The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women is
dedicated to promoting gender equality by identifying challenges and
establishing standards for the social, economic, political, and civil
rights of women. CSW-58 will address the theme: "Challenges and
achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for
women and girls."</span></p>

international organizations, and the US State Department.</span></p>

*2014 Student Organic Seed Symposium*
We are pleased to announce that the 2014 Student Organic Seed Symposium
will be held at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY from August 17 - August
21, 2014. A formal announcement flyer is attached. Further information,
including schedules, speakers, and an application form can be found on our

The Student Organic Seed Symposium aspires to build a community of graduate
students interested in plant breeding and seed systems for organic agriculture.
The symposium will include workshops, seminars, tours of local
organic businesses,
field demonstrations of student research and networking opportunities.
Twenty-five graduate students will be selected by a committee
to participate in the 2014 symposium. We welcome applications from graduate
students in diverse fields of study including but not limited to:
sociology, economics, crop and soil science, plant breeding,
plant pathology and genetics. Applicants must demonstrate a strong
personal interest in or be conducting research related to organic or
alternative
agricultural systems. Applications are due by February 1st, 2014.
The cost of the four day event will be $125 dollars, which includes food,
lodging and transportation during the symposium. Selected participants are
responsible for travel to and from Ithaca, NY. Limited scholarships are
available to cover the Symposium fee.
Thanks to Seed Matters and Cornell University for generously sponsoring
this event. This year's symposium is being organized by graduate
students from Cornell
University, University of Minnesota, University of Hawaii, Texas Tech
University, and University of California - Davis.

The University of Alberta’s Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental
Sciences will be hosting a Food Security Dialogue on April 30 – May 2, 2014
entitled, “*Enhancing Food Production, Gender Equality and Nutritional
Security in a Changing World”. *
We would like to cordially invite you to submit an abstract by *9 February
2014* for a selected paper or poster on one of the four following themes;
1. Sustainable agricultural systems -- agronomy, livestock systems, aqua
culture and animal health within the broader context of sustainable agricu
ltural systems.
2. Gender and livelihoods -- gender, social protection, and specializ
ation vs. diversification of livelihoods.
3. Nutritional security -- relations between food, agriculture, health
and nutrition.
